Why take this test?

IgG food intolerance testing is an excellent way to understand if adverse food reactions are the cause of your symptoms. This test identifies elevated IgG antibodies to specific food and drink products and the resulting information can be used to make an informed decision about how to adapt your diet and for how long.

The presence of circulating antibodies may affect each of us differently. Circulating IgG food antibodies are not diagnostic for a specific condition, but indicate an immune response to a particular food type. The immune response could be a normal response for one person that would not necessarily cause symptoms whereas for another symptoms may be debilitating.
Studies have shown the benefit of IgG food antibody testing in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, depression, eczema, autoimmune disease, Crohn’s disease and obesity, by implementing an elimination diet of foods proven to cause an immune response.

The ‘Leaky Gut’ Connection

Elevated levels of circulating IgG antibodies to food and drink items can be suggestive of ‘leaky gut’ or increased intestinal permeability. Leaky gut happens when the tissue in the gut which forms a semi-permeable barrier, called tight junctions, is impaired and substances that shouldn’t ordinarily cross this barrier succeed in doing so. This can cause an immune response and the production of IgG antibodies to food and drink items. Many factors can contribute towards leaky gut such as stress, alcohol, anti-inflammatories and a diet high in sugar, animal fat and low in fibre.

The guidance for the turnaround time of results from this test is 3 working days from the time your sample is received at the laboratory. This excludes weekends and bank holidays. It is an estimate only and your results may take longer during busy periods.
