Blood Allergy & Intolerance Testing

What is a food allergy?

A food allergy is when the body’s immune system reacts unusually to specific foods. Although allergic reactions can be mild, they can be also be very serious. Food allergy symptoms include coughing, sneezing, runny nose/eyes, itchy mouth/eyes, swelling of the lips/face, rashes, worsening of eczema and/or asthma, wheezing, breathing difficulties, vomiting, diarrhoea and, in rare cases, anaphylaxis. Testing for food allergy can only be done through a blood, skin prick or patch test.

What is a food intolerance?

A food intolerance is a difficulty digesting certain foods and having an unpleasant physical reaction to them. It causes symptoms, such as bloating and stomach pain, which usually happen a few hours after eating the food.

How many items do you test for?

We test for a range of different items, depending on the test. These are:

Food Intolerance: Our Basic Intolerance kit tests 60 food and drink items and a full list of these can be viewed here. The Advanced Intolerance kit tests 134 food and drink items and a full list of these can be viewed here.

Food Allergy: Our Food Allergy kit tests 38 food and drink items and a full list of these can be viewed here.

How do I take a blood test?
We provide you with an easy-to-follow set of instructions with your test kit. The lancets are designed to give you a tiny prick on the finger to start the blood flow. It’s the same as a pinprick and, if administered correctly following our provided instructions, will not hurt. The full instrcutions for both the Allergy and Intolerance tests are below:

Can I complete a blood test on a child?

Whilst we allow blood allergy and intolerance testing from the age of 2 and above, there is evidence to show that allergies are not fully developed until the age of 7. Our advice would be to check with a medical professional before purchasing.
