Food Allergy Testing

If you experience allergy symptoms after eating, drinking or even cooking certain types of food, you may have a food allergy. These symptoms can range from mild to severe and can develop at any time during your life.

If you have an allergy, it can make mealtimes challenging, especially if you don’t know for sure which foods you have an allergy to.

For fast, convenient and accurate confirmation, a food allergy test can give you the answers you need to help you take back control of your health.

What is a Food Allergy?

A food allergy develops when your body misinterprets certain food or drink as a threat. As a result, it produces symptoms – sometimes similar to that of a cold or flu – in an attempt to fight that threat.

An allergy can develop at any time in your life, and the symptoms can range from mild to severe, even if you’ve never experienced symptoms before. Most allergy symptoms are mild, though uncomfortable and unpleasant, but can occasionally be serious and potentially life-threatening.

How can you test for a food allergy?

There are a number of different ways you can test to find out whether or not you have a food allergy, with some being more accurate than others:

  • Try an elimination diet, which involves removing different foods from your diet that you suspect you might have an allergy to. If the symptoms stop, you may have an allergy.
  • Start a food diary to track the food and drink you eat and any allergy symptoms you might have. You can then use this information to see if there are any patterns between what you eat and the symptoms you have.
  • Take a food allergy blood test to find out in less than a week exactly what food and drink you have an allergy to.
Speak to your doctor and explain your symptoms, however, they’ll likely ask you to use a combination of the above.
